US President Joe Biden is losing the support of the liberal media. The ‘New York Times’ asked him in an editorial not to run for office again – and thus ‘serve his country’.
It was an embarrassment for Joe Biden (81) and a triumph for Donald Trump (78). The TV duel between the (former) presidents is putting increasing pressure on the oldest sitting president in American history.
To serve the country, Biden must leave the race for another term, wrote the New York Times Editorial Board, a group of opinion journalists who work separately from the editorial staff.
“Failed own test”
It goes on to say that Biden is “the shadow of a great public servant.” The debate between the president and his challenger Donald Trump showed that Biden “failed his own test.” Several renowned opinion journalists are represented on the editorial board; they are meant to represent the values of the ‘New York Times’.
Biden was an admirable president, the journalists wrote in the op-ed. “Under his leadership, the country prospered and began to address some long-term challenges.”
The wounds opened by his Republican predecessor Trump are also starting to close. The biggest favor Biden could perform now “would be to announce that he will no longer participate in the election,” the report continued.
Biden spoke in a hoarse voice during the TV debate on CNN on Thursday evening and repeatedly became confused in his wording. He also left sentences unfinished and stuttering. Trump seemed much more energetic and focused.
Panic is spreading among US Democrats
A CNN poll showed that 67 percent of viewers saw Trump as the winner of the match. The outcome of the debate caused concern among American Democrats. Biden himself dismissed doubts about his fitness for another term. “I don’t walk as easily as I used to, I don’t speak as fluently as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to, but I know how to tell the truth,” he said at a campaign appearance in North Carolina.
