The couple from Walding set off at 11:00 and were on their way from the Almtalerhaus to the Welser Hütte at the foot of the Großer Priel. The two were apparently driving at different speeds, which is why the man eventually lost sight of the woman from Mühlviertel. “My wife always walks slower than me and usually arrives an hour later,” Waldinger said later. The fire brigade started the search using two drones and paths, streams and streets were searched on foot. At the same time, mountain rescuers entered the search area. The search was called off without success around 2 a.m. and helpers have been on the road again since 6 a.m. to find the 64-year-old.
