A 28-year-old Syrian is said to have injured two people, some seriously, in front of a bar at the Hallein city festival last Saturday. Witnesses held the man, who tried to escape, until the police arrived.
The suspect from Hallein is said to have thrown a beer bottle at a security guard’s head shortly after 2 a.m. and to have cut a bar owner with a shard of glass.
Syrians rounded up and arrested
Both injured, a 34-year-old Bosnian and a 42-year-old Serb, were taken to UKH Salzburg. The Syrian was held by witnesses as he tried to escape until police arrived and was subsequently arrested.
According to witnesses, the suspect was probably thrown out of the restaurant before the incident because of his excessive drinking. He is reportedly at large.
