Due to the slow traffic on Thursday morning on the southern motorway near Hartberg towards Vienna, a truck driver from Poland had to brake sharply. The next truck driver probably overlooked this: he hit the vehicle in front of him with full force.
At around 9:40 a.m., a 40-year-old truck driver from Poland was driving on the A2 towards Vienna when he had to almost bring his truck with trailer to a standstill near Sankt Johann an der Haide due to the traffic situation.
No skid marks
“The following Hungarian truck driver (72) probably overlooked the braking process and collided with full force with the trailer of the truck in front of him,” a press release from the Styrian State Police Directorate said.
The 72-year-old Hungarian had to be removed from the driver’s cab by the Hartberg fire brigade. However, the emergency doctor who arrived at that moment could only determine that the man was dead.
Traffic jam towards Vienna
No one else was injured. The A2 was closed to all traffic towards Vienna until around 11:00.
