The 56-year-old took off for a training flight from a paragliding launch site in Obertilliach shortly before 11 a.m. on Thursday. “For unknown reasons, the man lost control of the paraglider shortly after take-off, pulled out the rescue parachute and fell approximately 100 meters down,” police said.
Flown to hospital
The German remained seriously injured on the ground until an uninvolved passer-by, who happened to be nearby, provided first aid and set the rescue chain in motion. After initial treatment at the scene of the accident, the man was flown to the Lienz district hospital by the rescue helicopter “ARA-3”.
