An elderly driver failed to see another car on Friday afternoon when he drove from a freight road onto a provincial road for a quick rescue, but all efforts of the emergency services were in vain. Two women are dead. Some comrades were in shock and even needed help.
After this difficult operation, the firefighters from Lohnsburg also needed help in processing the stress and the images – because although they did everything humanly possible, two women could not be saved.
Trapped in the wreckage
Shortly after noon, the small Opel of an 82-year-old woman from Waldzell turned from a freight road onto the Kobernausser Landesstraße, but the elderly driver looked over the approaching Ford of a 64-year-old man – also from Waldzell. He was unable to avoid the collision. While the driver of the larger vehicle escaped with a light blow and was able to get out of the accident car himself, the 82-year-old and her 79-year-old passenger were trapped in the wreckage of the small car.
First responders prepared comrades
A firefighter was one of the first to arrive at the scene of the accident and, when the alarm was raised, he prepared his comrades for a ‘crash rescue’, where everything had to be done very quickly because, of course, every second counts.
Died in hospital
The helpers from Lohnsburg were initially able to free the two seniors quickly. The passenger died at the scene of the accident and the driver was flown to the hospital in Wels. However, she also suffered serious injuries and succumbed to them shortly afterwards.
