Terrible accident on Sunday evening in the Tyrolean lowlands: In Westendorf (Kitzbühel district) a drunken pedestrian was rammed by a taxi and catapulted into the adjacent field. The 64-year-old local man suffered serious injuries.
The fatal accident happened around 3:30 a.m. The taxi driver (74) was driving his vehicle on the Windauer Straße (L204) from the center of Westendorf towards Holzham. At the same time, the 64-year-old pedestrian was walking in the middle of the road, according to the police.
Poor visibility and rain
“Presumably due to poor visibility due to the darkness and rain and the dark clothing, the taxi driver noticed the pedestrian too late. A collision occurred,” the police reported.
As a result of the violent collision, the 64-year-old was thrown into the adjacent field, where he remained injured. “The taxi driver and a passenger immediately began first aid measures and started the rescue chain,” the investigators continued.
Pedestrian significantly intoxicated
The emergency team eventually took the injured man to Kufstein District Hospital. The pedestrian was said to have been heavily intoxicated at the time of the accident.
