At least 31 people, including two small children, have been killed in fresh fighting in Palestine. A house in the city centre and a school housing thousands of refugees were among the targets of bombing.
Journalists saw several children being taken to a hospital. Rescue workers said there was also an attack in Gaza City. In total, at least 31 people were killed; the information provided by Hamas and the Palestinian Red Crescent could not be independently verified.
Meanwhile, indirect talks between the Israeli government and the Islamist Hamas over a ceasefire and a hostage-for-prisoner exchange are expected to continue in Cairo. The negotiations, which have been ongoing for months, have recently stalled. Hamas has so far demanded an immediate end to the war in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages. However, the Israeli government wants to destroy Hamas as a military formation and a governing force (see video above).
According to media reports, the terrorist organization has relaxed its strict demands somewhat. However, observers speak only of individual changes in the text of the agreement.
Israelis’ impatience is growing
Impatience is growing in Israeli society. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets again Saturday night across the country to demand a hostage-taking, and on Sunday there were roadblocks and other actions. The movement had called for a “day of disruption.”
According to Israeli information, about 120 hostages are still being held in the closed coastal area, but many of them are probably no longer alive.
