40 minutes waiting time – no emergency doctor: Another death in Liezen!

Date:

The acute shortage of emergency doctors in Liezen has been causing waves for weeks. After a cardiac death caused a stir in early July – the emergency doctor only came after 40 minutes – there is now the next dead person to mourn, who might still be alive if a doctor came earlier. The Red Cross of the Liezen district sounds the alarm in an open letter.

On Thursday night, a 72-year-old in Liezen suffered from acute heart problems and alerted the rescue team. As usual in such cases, the ambulance rolled out at the same time – but there was no ambulance on board. “The emergency doctor’s office at the LKH Rottenmann was unmanned and there was no family doctor present,” said deputy Red Cross district manager Mario Lindner.

Paramedics and paramedics fought for the man’s life for 40 minutes, but unfortunately were unable to save him. The emergency doctor, who arrived much too late – he came by helicopter – could only determine death.

It wasn’t until early July that a similar incident in Lassing caused a stir: a 50-year-old collapsed and a helicopter carrying an ambulance arrived 40 minutes later. The man died.

“Situation unbearable”
Of course you cannot say that these patients would have survived if an emergency doctor had arrived immediately, emphasizes the Red Cross. However, the situation is untenable. Those responsible for the Red Cross are now also expressing their displeasure in an open letter sent to the state government on Thursday. It calls for permanent occupation of the emergency rooms in Bad Aussee, Rottenmann and Schladming – around the clock, 365 days a year.
