According to the latest forecasts, Macron’s party is in second place, with the far-right National Rally relegated to third place, despite being the winner of the first round.

French citizens have managed to convert brake far right in the second round of the parliamentary elections in France, in which the victory for the left-wing coalition New Popular Front and the relegation of Marine Le Pen’s National Group to third place, preventing it from reaching government. In second place is the coalition formed by parties linked to Emmanuel Macron.

According to the latest forecasts, the left-wing New Popular Front coalition would win between 187 and 199 seats.

The second group in the National Assembly is for the Macronist Ensemble bloc, with between 164 and 169 elected representatives.

The far-right National Agrupation party would win between 135 and 143 seats, relegating to third place, which would be the big surprise of the evening, as it was the most voted party in the first round with more than 33% of support.

The Republicans will get between 63 and 68 seats, other left-wing forces will get about 15 elected seats, and other smaller groups would get 9 or 10 seats.

These results do not give any of the blocs an absolute majority, namely 289 seats.

Nearly 49 million French people went to the polls in these elections, marked by a historic turnout estimated at 67.1%, the highest figure in 1997.

The reactions from politicians They didn’t wait and spoke as soon as the poll data was released.

The winner of the election, left-wing leader Jean Luc Melenchon, was the first to speak. He called on Macron to accept his defeat and ask the NFP coalition to form a government.

President Emmanuel Macron “will wait for the structuring of the New National Assembly to take the necessary decisions,” sources at the Elysée said, adding that “in his role as guarantor of the institutions, he will ensure that the sovereign decision of the French is taken.”

Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, for his part, has confirmed that he will offer his resignation to President Macron this Monday, but has expressed his willingness to temporarily lead the executive branch in light of the parliamentary impasse.

Far-right leader Marine Le Pen has lamented her party’s defeat but recalled that they have redoubled their support and believes that “it lays the foundations for a victory in the future.”

Finally, the leader of Los Republicanos (LR), Eric Ciotti, has denounced an “alliance of shame” that has given “power to the far left”.
