Once again, there were numerous storm incidents in Lower Austria. Eleven emergency services were busy for hours covering up, for example, loose roofs.
In the municipalities of Waldkirchen an der Thaya and Dobersberg, which had been hit by heavy hail a week earlier, tarpaulins were torn from roofs and damaged, the district command reported in a broadcast. The covers had to be secured and rainwater sometimes entered residential buildings.
Turntable ladder in use
According to the local fire brigade command, eleven emergency services were present and a turntable ladder was also called in. In order to be prepared for further damage after a possible new storm, 35,000 square meters of tarpaulin material was purchased.
Heavy hail storm
The hailstorm of June 30 caused enormous damage in the region. The towns of Waldkirchen, Gilgenberg, Waldhers and Rappolz in the municipality of Waldkirchen an der Thaya, as well as Lexnitz, Reibers and Brunn near Dobersberg in the municipality of Dobersberg, were considered disaster areas and were withdrawn last Wednesday.
The firefighting operation lasted until Tuesday evening and involved a total of 520 emergency services. All damaged residential buildings were temporarily covered with tarpaulins.
