A 67-year-old Salzburg woman from Flachgau fell into a perfidious police trick this week. Scammers posed as police officers and lured the woman 28,000 euros with stories about the alleged arrest of a burglar in her area.
On Monday and Tuesday, alleged police officers reported to the woman from Flachgau several times with different telephone numbers. The scammers said a burglar had been caught near their home. The alleged officials found a piece of paper with the burglar on which the woman’s data and bank details could be read.
Savings accounts closed
They then persuaded the woman to close her savings accounts to “safeguard” her assets. On Tuesday evening, the woman from Flachgau finally handed over 28,000 euros to two unknown perpetrators.
After the 67-year-old accidentally handed over her wallet and a key when handing over the money, she called the real police.
