On Sunday afternoon, the Vienna police in Favoriten were alerted after three brothers attacked a family in a car.
According to police spokesman Mattias Schuster, the men blocked the car in Neilreichgasse shortly before 5 p.m. In the ensuing argument, the oldest and youngest brothers (37 and 27 years old respectively) got out and attacked a 36-year-old man with knives. The victim suffered superficial cuts and scratches.
Threatened with murder
The background to the quarrel may have been a dangerous threat that the eldest brother allegedly made to the 36-year-old’s wife on the phone some time ago. He threatened to kill her. That is why the woman was on her way to the Zohmanngasse police station with her husband and another family member in the car on Sunday. The brothers probably noticed this and watched over the family.
Report submitted
After the attack, the 37-year-old and the 27-year-old initially fled. The third brother, 32, did not take part in the attack. The eldest later came to a police station and was arrested. His younger accomplice was reported and was still being sought on Monday. All of the people involved are believed to be from Syria.
