As has only just been announced, an accident occurred on Friday evening in Götzis (Vorarlberg) in which a 46-year-old wheelchair user was hit by a car on a protection path and overturned. The driver simply continued his journey and just left the injured person there.
At about 6.20 p.m., a 46-year-old man was walking in his electric wheelchair on the sidewalk of Wiedengasse in the direction of Kalkofenweg. Near the house at Wiedengasse 13a, it was the intention of the wheelchair driver to cross the street there on the protection path.
About in the middle of the crosswalk, an unknown driver of a silver vehicle, coming from Wiedengasse and into Kalkofenweg, hit the 46-year-old’s electric wheelchair. The impact caused the wheelchair to fall on its left side. The man managed to catch himself with his arms and thus prevent a complete fall.
Witnesses to the accident are requested to contact the Götzis Police Inspectorate on 059133/8157.
The driver of the car apparently paid no attention and left the scene of the accident without stopping. The wheelchair user suffered abrasions and injuries to his face and chest in the incident.
