Because a 20-year-old forgot Mother’s Day, her mother attacked the sleeping woman and threatened to kill her. In court in Vienna, the young woman still says: “She is my darling.” That was not the first quarrel in the family…
The audio recording, which is played in the Vienna Regional Court, lasts just under a minute. In it, a mother threatens her 20-year-old daughter: “Yes, you will die. Because I will smash your skull.” In the background, the young woman’s screams. Before that, the 55-year-old had started hitting her daughter with her fists while she was half asleep.
Daughter forgot Mother’s Day
Trigger: The 20-year-old had forgotten Mother’s Day on May 12, and when they wanted to celebrate and talk two days later, she didn’t show up. “It’s a feeling of disappointment,” the accused mother explains. She also drank twelve beers that day and can barely remember anything about the crime.
“The problem when she drinks so much is that she becomes aggressive. But I have never seen her like that. I didn’t recognize her anymore,” the 20-year-old said in tears on the witness stand. And even before May 14, the day of the crime, the family situation was probably problematic. The divorce from her father, a doctor, was long. There were accusations of violence and abuse. “Of course the children suffered a lot too,” said the 55-year-old Viennese defense attorney.
Deportations by the police also against the two children
The daughter was also heavily intoxicated during the attack. Like her mother and her son, who is three years older than her, she drinks too much. The children have already been deported by the police four times for aggressive behavior.
It is unlikely that there will be any lasting bad blood between the defendant and the 20-year-old, who suffered bruises to her face. “She is my darling,” the daughter said in court. The mother: “She is my best friend.” To whom she will be allowed to return home after the trial. The Viennese woman is sentenced to an invalid 20-month suspended prison sentence and is released after the trial.
