It’s hard to say what a Japanese man was thinking when he was caught at a Hawaii airport with two hand grenades in his luggage. Even though the weapons were dummy, the incident still caused the airport to be evacuated.
The 41-year-old passenger attempted to leave the United States from Hilo Airport but was arrested instead. The dangerous souvenirs were discovered during security screening; the hand grenades were believed to be dummy or practice grenades.
A bomb squad arrived to investigate the suspicious items. Until then, the airport was briefly evacuated.
It is unclear what the passenger intended to do with the souvenir
It is not yet known where the suspect obtained the grenades. Authorities have not yet released any information about his possible plans. The man is being held on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threats.
