War weapons, ammunition and money were found in the Berlin apartment of former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette. Detectives seized a Polish assault rifle and a Czech submachine gun, among other items. Klette is said to have used the weapons and a doll in robberies.
Authorities also seized more than a kilo of gold and more than 240,000 euros in cash during a house search in Berlin. According to initial findings, at least part of the amount was stolen during the robberies and larger sums of cash have probably been exchanged in the meantime.
Former RAF trio Daniela Klette, Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg are accused of plundering a total of around 2.7 million euros. The left-wing extremist Red Army Faction (RAF) killed more than thirty political, business and administrative leaders. It carried out several attacks, including bombings, and took hostages. In 1998 it declared itself disbanded.
The search for Staub and Garweg is still ongoing
The Public Prosecution Service has been investigating Klette, Staub and Garweg for attempted murder and aggravated robbery since 2015. Klette was arrested in Berlin-Kreuzberg at the end of February (see video above) and the search for Staub and Garweg continues. They belonged to the third generation of the RAF.
The weapons that the authorities have now seized are said to have been used to threaten victims with death or to force them to perform certain actions. It is suspected that the trio used them in June 2016, for example, during the robbery of a cash-in-transit van in Cremlingen. At that moment, a passenger was taken hostage. After shots were fired at the van, the driver opened the vehicle and the perpetrators were able to escape with the loot.
