Numerous emergency services have been seen around the Iron Gate since around 12:00 – in the meantime, the Cobra was also on site. The trams are at a standstill and numerous alleys are cordoned off. A police helicopter is also circling above the city center.
According to the first information, there would have been two deaths: a man would have fatally shot a woman with a gun and then himself. It is probably a relationship act. The crime scene was a law firm on Kaiserfeldgasse in Graz; the victim would have worked there as a lawyer.

The emergency call for the police operation came from Florentine Zankel from a notary’s office in the same building, as she describes shortly after the crime on the “Krone”: “We heard it crack three times and didn’t know exactly what it was. Then we heard a woman’s voice screaming,” she says. They then called the police and locked themselves in their own office.
The police investigation on site is still ongoing. Police spokesman Fritz Grundnig also said that there is no longer any immediate danger. The area around Kaiserfeldgasse will remain cordoned off for the time being and the barriers will be gradually lifted.
A police spokesperson initially confirmed only that there was a large operation and that several streets had been closed off. However, on X (formerly Twitter), the police are urging people to avoid the area for the time being. In a later tweet, the police confirmed that there had been a shooting: “According to current information, a person was likely carrying a firearm inside a building.”
