Dramatic scenes at the Eggenburg open-air swimming pool in the Horn district of Lower Austria: a teenager jumped from the three-meter-high tower into the water – and accidentally jumped on a boy. The victim was taken to hospital by emergency helicopter.
Two boys (12, 15) were having fun on the diving board at the Eggenburg outdoor pool on Thursday afternoon. The 12-year-old was currently on the three-meter-high tower. According to police reports, he thought the 15-year-old who had jumped into the water in front of him had already swum out of the diving area of the pool. So he jumped into the water running – he saw the boy swimming while he was still in the air. The teenager jumped straight at the 15-year-old and hit his back with his feet. The victim managed to swim to the edge of the pool on his own. Other swimmers helped him out of the water.
The boy had trouble getting air
The victim was plagued by pain in the shoulder area and could not breathe, Horn police reported. The 12-year-old immediately called the lifeguard, who in turn administered first aid and called the rescue team.
Because the rescue team could not reach a doctor at the hospital in Horn, according to the police, the helicopter was requested. After stabilization on site, the young patient was flown to the SMZ East in Vienna.
