Driver’s license surrendered – CDU top candidate drove an e-scooter while drunk

Date:

Brandenburg CDU state and parliamentary group leader Jan Redmann was still riding an e-scooter with a blood alcohol level of 1.3 per mille. The politician said he was driving home on Thursday after an evening with friends in Potsdam. He will “bear the consequences of my mistake.”

He had already voluntarily surrendered his driver’s license, says Redmann (44). A procedure is already underway following the incident. The CDU state leader was stopped by the police during a routine check on Thursday. The officers asked him for an alcohol test, which showed a blood alcohol level of 1.3 per mille.

“Judging based on ideas”
In any case, he will continue the election campaign and become even more involved, the politician said. “I am running for the office of prime minister (…). “I ask the people of Brandenburg to judge me on the basis of my political ideas and solutions for the future of the country and not on the basis of a mistake that I myself feel most sorry for,” he said in a statement.

According to his own statement, Redmann can take responsibility, but he is not free from mistakes, which he stands by, “even if that is personally painful.”
