On Monday evening, a large fire broke out in Liezen (Styria) and a column of smoke visible from afar caused concern. A bulky waste hall of the municipal waste processing organization is on fire. 17 barrages fight the flames with 150 men.
The fire brigade responded to the large fire in Liezen around 6:15 pm. “A hall of the Waste Management Association is on fire. We are fighting the flames with a massive contingent, with at least eight weirs,” says Sebastian Emmer of the Liezen fire brigade in a first statement on “Krone”.
A hall in which bulky waste is temporarily stored has been hit. The smoke is enormous, the population was asked to close the windows. However, hazardous substances must not catch fire. According to initial reports, no one was injured.
150 men from 17 fire brigades are deployed. “We have the fire under control now. The flames have not spread to other halls. There are no injuries,” said Christoph Schlüsslmayr of FF Gröbming to “Krone” shortly after 8 p.m.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the extinguishing work is still ongoing.
