Fire alarm on the A1 West Autobaan! Friday afternoon a car caught fire. Three alert fire brigades quickly had the fire under control and after about 20 minutes a lane could be reopened. The four occupants freed themselves and no one was injured.
The fire burned brightly and a thick cloud of black smoke rose into the air above the high-roofed station wagon. The diesel car suddenly caught fire on the A1 West motorway between Oberwang and Mondsee. The driver managed to steer the car onto the hard shoulder.
No injuries
“The four occupants had freed themselves from the burning vehicle unharmed, so we were able to immediately concentrate on fighting the fire in the vehicle,” said Robert Grabner, operations manager of the Oberwang fire brigade.
Immediately removed
What happened quickly: the volunteer fire brigades of Innerschwand, Oberschwand and Mondsee had the fire under control quickly. The western motorway was only completely closed for about 20 minutes; the entire closure lasted less than 45 minutes. Finally, the road was cleared.
