On Saturday evening, a heavy storm caused an ash tree to fall onto a high-voltage power line. The fire brigades of Rannersdorf and Siebing arrived at the scene at 8:40 p.m. A 45-year-old firefighter tried to cut down the tree with a chainsaw, but the device got stuck. The man tried to free the device with a second saw.
At that moment, the building, which was under great tension, shot up, hitting the 45-year-old and injuring him.
Comrades came to help
The man’s comrades provided first aid and alerted the emergency services. The injured man had to be taken to the University Hospital of Graz by the medical emergency helicopter C17.
