The entire country is suffocating under concrete – this impression is reinforced by hundreds of construction examples.
As reported, Greenpeace, out of pure ecological heart, called on people across the country this spring to name particularly bad examples of seal hunting throughout Austria. So far, almost 400 nominations have been received for the ironic campaign “The Nine Concrete Treasures of Austria”. In their opinion, the activists have compiled some particularly shocking examples for the “Krone” (see image).

Floods and droughts
“The many entries – from the so-called Vorarlberg tunnel spider in Feldkirch to the Traboch livestock centre in Styria to the Matzleinsdorfer Platz in Vienna – prove that citizens are fed up with concrete being covered with concrete,” concludes Greenpeace soil protection expert Melanie Ebner.
Especially because the consequences of completely sealing off green areas are increasingly manifesting themselves in floods and droughts, because there are fewer and fewer areas where seepage can occur.
New dramatic calculations paint a clear picture: according to these data, 330,000 hectares of agricultural land, such as fields, meadows and pastures, were developed in just 30 years. Once again, hail insurance director Weinberger tries to turn things around by warning politicians so that the food supply is not lost.
