The employers’ organisation held its usual summer General Council, during which its president, Tamara Yagüe, took stock of the year that has passed since she took office.
Confebask has confirmed “companies’ concerns about high absenteeism, talent and human resources shortages, and the negative contribution of labor conflicts to the country.”
The Basque Business Federation, Confebask, held its usual Summer General Council this morning, in which its President, Tamara Yaguetook stock of the year that has passed since he took office, as well as the main demands and concerns of companies in the short and medium term.
According to Confebask, Sickness absence in the BAC is ‘far above surrounding economies’“A problem that hinders our competitiveness and to which we must find a solution together, because it is a widespread concern that seriously affects us all: not only companies, but also institutions, people’s health, health care, public organizations and civil society agents in general,” says Tamara Yagüe.
With regard to the The labor conflict is structurally high ‘compared to that of the state’ and, moreover, it has grown considerably since 2019, despite the fact that working conditions in the Basque Country are significantly better than in the State, both in terms of job stability and in terms of salaries and the number of days worked,” he assured.
Concerning the demographic challenge and the lack of peoplethe president of Confebask recalls that “we need a country strategy around talent, a joint response by institutions and companies to the demographic challenge facing Euskadi. We trust that this will be a priority task for the new government and that it will be tackled with leadership and vision at the highest level. It is in this context that the pilot project that we have designed together with the Basque Government to attract professionals from Mexico and Colombia is taking shape.”
One of those difficulties is the access to housingTherefore, it is necessary to promote policies that contribute to increasing supply and moderating prices, not only to meet local demand, but also to provide a nationwide response to the challenge we face.”
15 tax measures
In addition, Confebask has proposed fifteen budgetary measures to “strengthen the competitiveness” of the Basque Autonomous Community and “accelerate its economic growth”.
He has made proposals, among other things Reduce the minimum tax rate in corporate income tax from the current 17% to 15%; Abolish the wealth tax; deflate income groups by the real rate of inflation and adjust marginal rates; make it possible to generate income from losses incurred in start-ups; improve the attractiveness of the tax incentive for innovation, by increasing the rate of the deduction, currently 15%; create a new deduction to encourage quality employment and also provide tax incentives for contributions to EPSVs; and provide tax incentives for the energy transition, creating a new deduction linked to decarbonisation.
The employers have thus transferred their tax proposal to the various tax authorities: “It’s not about contributing less, it’s about contributing better”he has defended.
On the other hand, employers have the growth forecast for this year in the field of 2% and the creation of some 16,000 new jobsafter confirming that companies “remain strongly committed to investing to address the transformations underway.”
