Another ATM – this time in the Weinviertel – was targeted by criminals. Only on Sunday, ATMs in the Waldviertel were blown up. A perpetrator from the Netherlands is suspected of being responsible. The Lower Austrian police are investigating.
‘Enthusiastic’ ATM bombers in Lower Austria are currently causing a lot of explosives. After two ATMs were partially blown up in Drosendorf in the Waldviertel over the weekend and the perpetrators had to flee due to shots from a neighbor, the next coup took place in the Weinviertel.
Perpetrators also blew up an ATM in Schrattenberg in the Mistelbach district on Tuesday evening. The force of the explosion caused considerable damage to the Raiffeisenbank building.
Group of perpetrators currently very active
The criminals ran away with their loot in the region of five figures and fled towards the Czech Republic. Based on the procedure – again a homemade black powder explosive – the police assume that it concerns the same group of perpetrators from the Netherlands. The National Criminal Investigation Department is investigating.
That’s not all: Two ATM burglars led police on a wild chase on the southern highway on Monday after breaking into a post office in Burgenland.
Wild chase with injuries
In Leobersdorf in the Baden district, a 35-year-old’s handcuffs clicked after a collision with a police car. An officer was injured in the accident. The second perpetrator (47) fell from a roof during his flight to the Czech Republic and injured himself.
