On Sunday, a hunter (63) shot two people and himself dead in Albstadt (Baden-Württemberg). The police have now announced that the shooter was mentally ill and had been released from a psychiatric hospital at the time of the crime.
He voluntarily entered treatment. Another motive for the crime could be financial fear for the future. According to information from Bild, the 63-year-old shooter runs a financial consultancy in Albstadt and his wife offers seminars on meditation. He was previously unknown to the police and legally owned the weapons as a hunter.
Mother-in-law and son shot
Investigators have now also revealed the identities of the victims. They are the hunter’s 84-year-old mother-in-law and his 24-year-old son (see video above). According to media reports, the son studied political science and recently ran as a candidate for the FDP in the European elections.
The wife (59) and daughter (26) of the shooter were seriously injured on Sunday and the 26-year-old is still fighting for her life. Several residents heard the shots and alerted the police. They eventually found the three dead and two wounded and confiscated the murder weapon.
