Fire departments in Tyrol were occupied by two vehicle fires: a convertible caught fire while driving on the A12 Inntal motorway in the lowlands. The driver was able to steer the car into a parking space. And in Matrei am Brenner, the car of a 19-year-old burned out completely.
The fire brigade was called out early Monday afternoon on the Inntal motorway near Weer (Schwaz district). A 68-year-old woman from the area was driving her convertible on the A12 towards Kufstein when thick smoke suddenly came out of the engine compartment.
Asfinag employees rushed to the scene
The driver reacted with presence of mind and was able to steer the car into a parking lot before it was completely engulfed in flames. Workers from Asfinag launched an initial attack on the fire. The Wattens fire brigade, who had been alerted, then carried out follow-up work. The car was totaled. The pensioner escaped in shock and remained unharmed.
