It is believed that a terrible accident occurred on Wednesday evening in the area of the Jägerbrücke in the municipality of Bach in the Tyrolean Ausserfern. A 40-year-old German was unable to get out of a swimming pool as part of a canyoning group. Shortly afterwards, the canyoning guide called an emergency call. A large-scale search operation was called off hours later and is expected to continue on Thursday.
The kidnapper was part of a group of five who went canyoning on Wednesday afternoon in the area of the Jägerbrücke in the Sulztal. On a 25-meter high abseil point, the 40-year-old German was the first of the group to abseil and for unknown reasons could not get out of a pool below on his own.
The canyoning guide, a 34-year-old German, could see how the man was pushed further down the gorge out of the pool. “When the group could no longer make visual contact with the group member after further abseiling, an emergency call was made at 7:15 p.m.,” police said.
Large scale search
The alerted mountain rescue team called the canyoning team from the Reutte district, which went into the Sulztal. The medical emergency helicopter RK 2 also came into action and carried out a search flight over the Sulzlbach. The fire brigades from Stockack and Bach occupied lookout posts on the bridges.
The remaining members of the group, another canyoning guide (32) in training from the Czech Republic and three other participants from Germany (17 and 39 years old) were rescued from the gorge with a winch around 20:30. Despite the use of a drone, the search for the missing person was unsuccessful and had to be called off around 22:30 due to the onset of darkness. The search will continue on Thursday.
