Unemployment in the BAC falls to 7.5% in the second quarter and amounts to 80,100 unemployed, 4,500 fewer

If these data are compared with those for the second quarter of 2023, the unemployment rate in the Basque Autonomous Community has fallen by only a tenth, from 7.6% to 7.5%, which means that the number of unemployed people has fallen by 500 people over the past year.

The unemployment rate in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) has fallen to 7.5% in the second quarter of this year, which is four tenths less than in the first three months of 2024, as the number of unemployed has fallen by 4,500.

The Basque Institute of Statistics, Eustat, released the data on Thursday Population survey in relation to activity (PRA) compared to the second quarter of this year, when the number of unemployed people 80 100.

When these data are compared to those for the second quarter of 2023, the unemployment rate has fallen by only one-tenth, from 7.6% to 7.5%Over the past year, the number of unemployed people has decreased by 500 people.

992,600 employees

In terms of employment, the number of persons employed between April and June of this year was 992,600, making this figure has increased by 2% compared to the same quarter last year. The number of employed persons has thus increased by 11,700, which exceeds the maximum of the third quarter of 2008.

As a result of the evolution of the working population and unemployment, activity percentage is 56.6% in the second quarter of 2024 two-tenths more compared to the previous quarter.

By historical areas and with respect to the previous quarter, In Bizkaia, employment increases by 6,400, in Gipuzkoa by 4,200 and in Álava by 1,200 peopleAs for the capitals, employment increased by 2,400 people in Donostia-San Sebastián, by 1,800 in Vitoria-Gasteiz and by 1,600 in Bilbao.

The largest increase in employment is among women (+8300)while among men this number rises to 3,400.

Push for services, primary sector and construction

The working population grew in the service sector by 10,100 persons (+1.4%), in the primary sector by 1,000 persons (11.8%) and in construction by 900 (+1.7%). However, industry declines of 300 (-0.2%).

With regard to the contract modality of employees, people with indefinite term contracts increase compared to the previous quarter by 10,900 and compared to the previous year by 31,500 people.

28,300 households where all active people are unemployed

In the second quarter of 2024, there are an estimated 922,100 households, one third of which have no active person, 2,100 households fewer than in the previous quarter. In almost six out of ten households, all active people have a job, 5,400 more families. In addition, households where all active members are unemployed are 28,300,000 fewer households than in the previous quarter.
