Donald Trump narrowly escaped death Saturday night when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crook shot him with a semi-automatic rifle. Investigators believe the gun belonged to his father. Ironically, in a 2016 Trump campaign dataset, he was listed as a gun enthusiast and a “persuasible voter”…
This was reported by the British television channel Channel 4 News. Accordingly, in 2016, the Trump campaign team created a database with profiles of millions of voters in disputed American states, the so-called swing states. The aim of the originally secret project of Trump supporters was to collect data to identify millions of gun owners and potential voters in the US who might respond positively to the issue of gun rights in the run-up to the 2016 election campaign.
As a gun owner targeted by the Trump campaign
As the station reports, the family of killer Thomas Matthew Crook was also in this extensive database. The parents’ profiles showed they were likely gun owners and shared “other gun-related lifestyle indicators,” the report said.
In Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign database, which was leaked to Channel 4 News in 2020, Matthew Crooks, 53, and his wife, Mary, are listed as living in a home in the Bethel Park neighborhood south of Pittsburgh. In Bethel Park, Crooks Sr. was among the top 20 persuadable voters. Although his wife was listed as a “Democrat,” she was open to a pro-gun agenda.
FBI Special Agent Kevin Rojek said the 20-year-old Crooks used an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle that was purchased legally. Investigators believe the weapon belonged to Crooks’ father. But it’s unclear how his son obtained the weapon he used to shoot Trump.
Murderer discovered early
Meanwhile, new findings from the investigation into the attack are piling pressure on security forces. An hour before Crook shot Trump, local guards identified the assailant in the crowd as a suspect — a “young man acting strangely,” the New York Times reported. The Secret Service, which protects Trump, was also notified. But by then, they say, the suspect was lost.
