The consequences of the global IT crisis have now also reached Graz airport. Two arrivals and one departure had to be cancelled and there are also delays. The improvisation skills of the Graz team can absorb a lot.
Chaotic scenes are being reported at airports around the world, with some airlines even halting flights: the IT outage, caused by an update from cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, is having a huge impact worldwide. Vienna Airport is also being hit hard.
In Graz, people got away with a black eye for a relatively long time. In general, the airline Eurowings suffers the most from this; airlines such as AUA, Lufthansa and Air Dolomiti use a different system, says airport director Wolfgang Grimus about ‘Krone’.
For example, the Eurowings plane that arrived from Corfu in the morning was delayed on take-off to Berlin. “Our team found a solution and processed the passengers manually – on a different system than we normally use for charter flights,” Grimus explains.
First cancellations
The return flight from Berlin to Graz was delayed for a long time and was eventually cancelled. According to the airport’s website, a flight from Frankfurt that was scheduled to land at 6 p.m. will not take place, nor will the flight from Graz to Frankfurt that was scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
The Eurowings flight to Kos is very late and the same can be expected in the evening for connections to and from Düsseldorf and Hamburg. Grimus advises all passengers to contact the respective airline.
Otherwise, Styria got off lightly. Neither Energie Steiermark nor the hospital company Kages reported any problems.
