Spectacular training event on the roof of the AKH: military pilots practiced transporting wounded people together with doctors.
Helicopter noise was heard in the ninth district on Thursday, surprising the people of Vienna. Future military pilots have been trained to approach the helicopter platform of the Vienna General Hospital (AKH) with a Black Hawk.
Two-day exercise
The maneuver is part of a two-day exercise: military pilots train together with medical personnel of the armed forces the transfer and medical care of patients. The training of the pilots took place with the active support of the Vienna General Hospital.
The aim was to prepare military pilots as well as possible for challenging landing manoeuvres. According to the Austrian Armed Forces, it is important to know the special capabilities and requirements of the Black Hawk.
The Black Hawk can also operate in challenging mountainous areas and extreme weather conditions.
