Was it a test of courage or was it supposed to be ‘fun’? The presumed 15-year-old has not confessed and is silent about his possible motive. The teenager is said to have set fire to an empty single-family home in St. Marien (Upper Austria) in mid-May.
On May 12, a fire broke out in a St. Marien single-family home that had been abandoned for years—more than two months later, it now seems clear why. According to police, a local 15-year-old entered the building through an open window around 7 p.m. and set fire to trash in a room. He then reported the fire himself.
Not known, no injuries
Based on several witness statements, the teenager has now been identified as a suspected arsonist. However, the 15-year-old has not confessed and is silent about his motive. He will be reported to the Linz public prosecutor’s office.
There were no injuries in the fire. Two fire brigades were able to quickly locate the fire in the vacant building and extinguish it using breathing apparatus.
