Nearly a year after a devastating tornado in the southeastern Czech Republic, high winds have damaged the region again. One can say with 99 percent certainty that Monday night’s weather phenomenon was a tornado, according to an expert. The storm damaged roofs and uprooted trees. The weather phenomenon is reminiscent of the devastating tornado about a year ago that killed six people.
According to the meteorologist Petr Münster of the CTK bureau, the tornado near the Lanzhot region (Landshut) would have rotated at a speed of about 150 kilometers per hour. The fire brigade was deployed more than 40 times. No one was injured.
On June 24, 2021, a severe tornado left a 16-kilometer trail of destruction in the region near the Austrian border. The storm claimed the lives of six people and injured about 200. More than 1,200 houses were damaged, many of which had to be completely demolished. According to experts, tornadoes of this size are very rare in the Czech Republic.
