Drunk with over 2.5 per mille and fell asleep in the dinghy

Date:

Police were called to an unusual operation in the Bavarian town of Lindau on Lake Constance, located directly on the border with Vorarlberg, on Saturday afternoon. Witnesses saw a heavily intoxicated man trying in vain to leave his dinghy and go ashore.

Last weekend, the summer weather made sure that many people sought refreshment at and around Lake Constance. This was also the case with a 52-year-old man who decided to take a tour in a rubber boat. However, it is possible that he had drunk a little too much alcohol.

When he tried to leave his rubber dinghy at the Oskar Groll branch on Saturday afternoon, he was unable to do so. An observant witness saw this and called the police for help. When the officers arrived, the drunk had already given up trying to get out of the rubber dinghy and was sleeping peacefully in his boat. After waking up, he eventually reached the coast with the help of the police.

Police were surprised when a voluntary breath alcohol test showed a level of just over 2.5 per mille. Since alcohol above a certain level is not permitted in a dinghy and drunk driving is a criminal offence in Germany, the 52-year-old was brought to the office to have a blood sample taken. He is now facing criminal proceedings. After completing all the measures, he was allowed to leave the office again.
