A motorboat exploded Tuesday afternoon in Nußdorf am Attersee in Upper Austria. A 41-year-old man suffered an unknown degree of injury and was taken to hospital after receiving emergency care.
Around 3 p.m., the man filled the motorboat with petrol in the boathouse on Lake Attersee. He then pushed the boat in which he was already sitting out of the boathouse and started the engine. At the same time, for unknown reasons, there was an explosion in the boat. His wife, who was waiting at the jetty, saw the explosion and yelled at her husband, who was still with the boat at the time, to jump into the water.
Firefighting from the pedal boat
At the same time there was another explosion, only then the man jumped into the Attersee and was able to save himself on the bank. The motorboat, now fully engulfed in flames, now drifted toward another boathouse. There, the FF Nußdorf tried to extinguish the fire of the drifting boat from the shore.
Only with the use of a pedal boat could a rope be attached to the bow of the burning boat. So it was towed to the shore. The fire was eventually extinguished by the fire brigade. How the explosions on the boat came about is now under investigation.
