Vitoria-Gasteiz airport will host the new DHL aircraft repair hangar

The company DHL Express Spain has announced the creation of a new hangar for aircraft repair at the airport Foronda from Vitoria-Gasteiz.

It will be the second most important repair centre in Europe, after the one in Leipzig (Germany), and will involve an investment of 40 million euros from the company.

The company’s vice-president in Spain, Tomás Holgado, has stated that Vitoria-Gasteiz has become “the perfect enclave” to build this infrastructure “due to its proximity to European countries and Morocco, the operational quality of the airport and the support of public institutions”.

The new facilities will be operational by mid-2027 I employ about 50 people and the company aims to attract qualified aerospace engineers from the region.

This hangar will house maintenance tasks for the company’s aircraft fleet. It will also consist of office space and storage areas for tools and equipment. In total, it will have a surface area of ​​over 19,700 square meters.

The company has reported that the building will be climate neutral“to achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.” Similarly, it ensures that they will avoid significant annual CO2 emissions, as “it will allow a reduction in the number of flights to maintenance facilities outside Europe.”
