At least nine sailors have died in a shipwreck near the Falkland Islands. Four other crew members of the fishing vessel “Argos Georgia” are still missing. “Argos Georgia” took on water and sank on Monday.
The cause has not yet been clarified. The accident occurred more than 300 kilometres east of Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands. The Falkland Islands are a British overseas territory off the Atlantic coast of Argentina.

The 27 crew members reached life rafts but had to endure rough sea conditions while the search was conducted. At least nine of them died and 14 were rescued in high winds and waves. Four other sailors are still missing.
International crew
The crew is international. Among the dead and missing are two Spaniards, and other sailors come from Russia, Indonesia, Peru and Uruguay. The ship “Argos Georgia” sails under the flag of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena and is owned by the Norwegian fishing company Ervik Havifske.
