There are now eight fire brigades, several Red Cross ambulances, the duty officer and the police – a large contingent of emergency services has just arrived in Steyregg. The reason seems trivial: a cellar fire. But the wind and another fact cause bigger problems.
The fire department’s operational manager immediately called for reinforcements after the alarm went off shortly before 4 p.m. The reason: Thick smoke was coming from the basement of a house right next to a doctor’s office. “According to initial reports, there is also a battery storage for a PV system in the basement,” the emergency services say. And if one does catch fire, it is difficult to extinguish, there is a risk of explosion and toxic fumes can be created.
Smoke enters residential area
For this reason, the Red Cross was sent there with a larger contingent. The thick smoke is being carried by the current wind towards populated areas. “There are currently no wounded who can be treated,” the paramedics report.
Respiratory protection position activated
The eighth fire brigade, the FF Ottensheim, has now been deployed. Background for the long journey from Ottensheim to Steyregg: Ottensheim is the district’s respiratory protection base. We will keep you informed about the development of the operation here at krone.at.
