An Austrian army truck had an accident in the Tyrolean Ötztal on Wednesday afternoon! After an evasive manoeuvre, the truck left the road and tipped over a slope. The three occupants, aged between 20 and 28, were out of luck.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 1:45 p.m. in the municipality of Oetz. As the police confirmed in response to a “Krone” request, it involved an army truck. “A 16-ton truck,” the spokeswoman specified.
Leave the road after a bend
The 28-year-old driver was driving the truck on the Kühtaistraße (L237) from Kühtai towards Oetz through the valley, when the vehicle “left the road due to an evasive maneuver after a bend, slid into a road marking post and then overturned down the slope,” the executive reported.
The prisoners were unharmed
The truck eventually came to rest “hanging upside down in the trees.” “The driver and two other passengers, ages 20 and 25, were able to free themselves from the vehicle and make an emergency call,” investigators continued. All were unharmed.
Rescue work lasting several hours
The truck sustained material damage of an as yet unknown amount. During the rescue operation, which lasted several hours, the L237 was only accessible to a limited extent. The volunteer fire brigade of Oetzerau, the road maintenance department of Haiming and the Austrian Federal Army were present.
