A serious mistake almost ended in tragedy in the district of Mödling (Lower Austria): during tree pruning, the heavy trunk suddenly bent and buried the garden owner. The fire brigade had to come to the scene with heavy equipment.
Late in the morning, a garden owner in Perchtoldsdorf wanted to prune a tree. To do this, the man climbed a ladder and worked on the trunk at a height of three meters – until it suddenly gave way! The amateur gardener was seriously injured and became trapped between the tree and the garden fence.
When the alerted fire brigade arrived on the scene, the comrades were surprised. “At first we thought the injured man was lying on the ground,” says Floriani. The volunteers used ladders to reach the patient and began to remove the dense branches of the tree.
The injured person was treated by rescue workers
After just a few cuts with the chainsaw, the trunk was light enough to be moved by hand. Thanks to their combined efforts, the firefighters lifted the tree aside and handed the injured man over to the emergency services. After about 20 minutes, the Florianis’ mission was over.
