Large-scale fire brigade action in South Styria! A grease fire at a barbecue may have spread to the clubhouse of a tennis club in the Wildon district of Stocking on Saturday afternoon, which immediately caught fire. Six fire brigades extinguished the fire and no one was injured.
At around 13:45, flames suddenly appeared on the covered terrace of the clubhouse of a tennis club: grease residues in the drip tray of a gas barbecue may have ignited during grilling. Despite immediate attempts to control the fire with a hand fire extinguisher, the fire spread to the clubhouse. Within a very short time, the building and a refrigerated trailer were completely on fire!

“The stored gas and CO₂ bottles in particular posed a danger to the fire brigade. The high outside temperatures of over 30 degrees also made the operation more difficult,” Marcel Keutz of the Wildon volunteer fire brigade told the “Krone”. Six fire brigades responded with 13 vehicles and 60 personnel, and the fire was extinguished after two hours. There were 35 people in the area; everyone was able to get to safety in time and no one was injured.
The total damage is expected to amount to more than one hundred thousand euros.
