Trial in Feldkirch: Dog owner threw bulldog off balcony after biting him

Date:

After the bulldog ‘Maxi’ bit the dog owner’s colleague in the calf, the 30-year-old could no longer contain his anger – and intervened very forcefully. He has now ended up in court for animal cruelty.

It concerns the 24 kilogram bulldog ‘Maxi’ and a fatal bite in the calf of a colleague of the suspected dog owner. For an inexplicable reason, the animal got stuck in the leg of the victim in mid-April. In anger, the suspect grabbed the family dog by the neck, threw him against a shed and then threw him off the balcony.

In the trial on Friday, the previously innocent man admitted to the abuse of “Maxi”. However, he explained his actions as anger at the lack of understanding of his sick parents: “I had always told them that a bulldog was a lively dog and not suitable for them as a therapy dog. But they wanted him, but were completely overwhelmed by raising the animal.”

1200 euro fine
There have been attacks on children in the past. Although judge Sabrina Tagwercher believes that “this did not happen”, she refrains from convicting. She lets the innocent do his part by dividing the case in a distracting way and fining the dog owner 1200 euros. Reason: “It is not unnecessary animal abuse, but rather a trigger in the form of a bite.”
