Three million students from Germany have started their vacation. The neighboring town of Kuchl breathed a sigh of relief: the exit barriers on the Tauernautobahn worked.
When Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg enter the summer holidays, that means traffic jams in Salzburg. Behind the Walserberg it had been building up since Saturday morning – up to twelve kilometers long. Then there were delays on the Tauernautobahn between Werden and Flachau.
However, the traffic intensity was not as high as feared. Probably countless tourists had already left for the south on Friday. In neighboring communities such as Kuchl, people breathed a sigh of relief. “The exit barriers worked, everything was fine,” said Kuchl Mayor Thomas Freylinger with relief. There was even less traffic in the city than a year ago.
According to the forecast of the ÖAMTC car club, traffic jams could form again on the highway on Sunday.
