Highest fire alarm level in the Waldviertler municipality of Bad Großpertholz. On Saturday afternoon, a fire broke out in a large barn and threatened to spread to the farm building.
Initially, the second highest alarm level was declared for the fire in Abab in the district of Gmünd. Because the fire-fighting water supply there proved to be extremely difficult, the level was raised to “B4”. And another six portable pumps were needed to create a one and a half kilometre long fire-fighting water line to the next pond, reports the Großpertholz fire brigade.
Firefighting efforts quickly had an effect
A total of 20 fire brigades with 178 emergency services were alerted. The Florianis on site were able to quickly gain access to the 59,000-litre fire-fighting water tank and a private swimming pool, thus combating the water shortage. The emergency services were able to control the flames earlier than expected and protect the residential building. No one was injured. Around 16:00 it was finally announced that the fire was out.
