A trip to the Hell Mountains ended painfully for a 53-year-old British woman. During the descent, she twisted her ankle and fell several meters, after which she could no longer climb down on her own. The woman was rescued by an emergency helicopter and flown to hospital.
A 53-year-old British woman went hiking with her 60-year-old husband to the Höllengebirge in the municipality of Steinbach am Attersee on Monday. The couple climbed from the Kaisigen district via the Stieg-Steig to the Geißalm and after a rest walked the same path back to the valley. At around 10:50 a.m. at an altitude of around 1,300 meters, the woman fell with her ankles and fell several meters into the mountain pines.
Saved by rope
Since it was no longer possible to descend independently, her husband called the emergency services. Then the mountain rescue service Steinbach/Weyregg, the medical emergency helicopter “Martin 3” and the Alpine police from Gmunden left. Finally, the crew of the emergency helicopter managed to rescue the injured person with a 30-meter rope and fly her to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck.
