Visitors excited: baby gorilla “Jabari” out and about for the first time

Date:

Last weekend it was finally time: the almost three-week-old baby gorilla “Jabari” visited the outdoor area of his enclosure at Schmiding Zoo for the first time in beautiful summer weather, accompanied by his family. The visitors immediately took the sweet cub into their hearts.

Silverback and daddy “Awembe” were the first to appear through the door to the outdoor area. Shortly after, “Kibibi” and little “Jabari” also ventured into the outdoor area for the first time. She looked around, still a bit skeptical, and kept her arm protectively around her baby. But she looked around with great attention and curiosity. There were many new impressions to process: leaves waving in the wind, the play of sun and shadow, green grass, birdsong…

New crowd pleaser
“It’s wonderful to see the offspring embarking on their first outdoor exploration,” the gorilla team at Schmiding Zoo happily says. But it didn’t just seem like a great adventure for “Jabari,” the zoo visitors also clearly enjoyed watching the cute gorilla cub in the outdoor enclosure. And then the three-week-old gorilla immediately became the zoo visitors’ new favorite.

Recovery from the heat
Since such a hike outdoors in the summer heat can be quite strenuous, we occasionally relaxed extensively in the shade of the trees. Just gorilla style: lying on your back with your legs up!
