For his part, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said: Naser Kananihas said it is his country’s “inalienable right” to respond to the killing of Haniyeh, who was on an official visit to the Iranian capital. He took Iran’s attack for granted and declared that Tehran “is not responsible for the escalation”.

Faced with a possible attack from Tehran, Israel has assured that it is prepared to defend itself, while many regional and Western countries have asked their citizens to leave Lebanon for fear of an escalation.

There is speculation that the Iranian response could come alongside other actions by the Axis of Resistance against Israel, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon or the Houthis in Yemen.

In Israel, its Defense Minister Yoav Galanthas asked the military to prepare for “all options,” as “Israel’s enemies” are also “considering all their options” due to the past actions of Israeli forces.

“We must be prepared for everything, including a rapid transition to attacks in all sectors,” he said, before defending that the air force’s preparations are progressing in line with the “development of events at the security level.”
