The United Nations points out that the Venezuelan elections did not meet “basic transparency measures”

Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) says it suffered a cyberattack on election day, and has therefore not yet published the results confirming Maduro’s victory. This silence has been questioned by numerous countries.

A panel of experts from the United Nations has pointed out that the performance management made by the Venezuelan electoral authorities after the elections of July 28, was missing of the “Basic measures of transparency and integrity essential for the conduct of credible elections.” According to these results, the country’s current president, Nicolás Maduro, was re-elected for a third consecutive term.

The internal report shows that the advertisements consisted of oral communication without any infographic support or broken down results. They claim that this is a fact “is unprecedented in contemporary democratic elections” and has been questioned by numerous countries.

The report recalled that the panel that remained in Venezuela during the electoral process was invited by the CNE and It was not an election observer mission. “The aim was to monitor the electoral process and report internally to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and to make recommendations for future improvements,” he explained.
